Two Heads Are Better Than One

Before anything else, a player needs at least one teammate. Solo runs are basically a death wish. A party of three or four makes the challenge much easier, but a well-coordinated duo can still pull it off. Voice chat is strongly recommended. When a wall breaks and piglins pour in, a quick call for backup can save the run. The last thing anyone wants is piglins throwing a party in the village square.

Assigning Roles

The Portal Pile demands defense of the village for 20 waves, with only a 20-second break between each. The land around the village is dry on resources because of netherrack corruption from the portals. Leaving the village unattended to gather materials is a bad idea. So the team should split roles: some players stay to defend, others gather resources. Gatherers must be ready to teleport back if defenders are overwhelmed. Resources and unit limits are shared, so defenders should tell gatherers what they are building and what materials they need. Communication is not optional.

Building Your Defenses

The priority is keeping enemies away from the village fountain. Defenses should concentrate toward the three Nether portals, while other sides still get some protection. The village's pre-existing structures make construction space surprisingly cramped, so placement matters.

Raising An Army

The shared army cap starts at 10 and eventually reaches 100. Players should use their banner to distribute units at different attack points. If multiple players defend, they should split up and cover different directions. Good units include Grindstone Golems for stunning, Zombies for durable melee, Warriors near the end, and the First Golems as they become available. Each has a role, and ignoring them is a rookie mistake.

Have Some Mercy

The event can feel overwhelming, but there is a clever exploit. New waves cannot start until the current wave ends. If after clearing most of a wave a few weak piglins are attacking a structure being healed by a Carpenter Hut, it may be wise to leave them alone. They will be stuck attacking a building that regenerates faster than they can damage it. That time can be used to build more defenses or gather resources. Just make sure arrow towers and units do not accidentally kill them before the team is ready. Sometimes the best move is to do nothing at all.

Check The Village Chest

After each wave, players should check the village chest. Even with dedicated gatherers, extra materials are welcome. As the land dries up, the chest may become the main source of certain resources. It is a small habit that pays off.
